Avatars are the faces your sessions render. Two kinds exist: platform DEFAULT avatars (visible to every account, not editable or deletable) and CUSTOM avatars you upload. List and detail responses include isOwned to tell them apart. After uploading an image, FaceMode renders an idle clip in the background - watch idle_video_status (PENDING until rendered). A session can be created with the avatar immediately; idleVideoStatus in the create response reflects readiness.

Upload rules

  • POST/PUT use multipart/form-data with the file in the image field.
  • Images only (image/* MIME types), max 5 MB per file.
  • Uploads are rate limited to 5 requests per minute per key (429 RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED).
  • Only owned custom avatars can be updated, deleted, or downloaded. Attempts on defaults return AVATAR_DELETE_DEFAULT_FORBIDDEN or AVATAR_DOWNLOAD_NON_CUSTOM_FORBIDDEN.
